In this article, we explain about a high current power supply project that gets an output of 1.5volt to 30volt using some main components like LM317 IC and transistor, specialty about this circuit is it will produce high current. (high current)


Many types of high current power supplies are available on the internet, which is also having different variants on circuit schematics and components usage, but they all are more complicated in its circuits design, and when we consider a beginner it is a tough job to determine a perfect


LM317 

LM317 is a voltage regulator IC, especially LM317 is a positive regulator component, we can make 1.25v to 30v adjustable power supply with maximum current of 1.5amp, using this IC.

In this circuit we are placing an extra transistor for handling high current at the circuit, LM317 IC is used in the circuit other than this, and everything is the same.


And using 5k potentiometer to adjust our output voltages.


Usually, LM317 IC withstands the only 1.5amp of output current, whenever the output current value exceeds this limit LM317 IC heat increases drastically, then it leads to damage at the whole circuit. Protection from this issue here we are using an element called pass elements.


When we consider about pass element, they are components used at the circuits for increase output current limit, transistors are the component acts as the pass element, generally, they are applied in 2 ways in the circuit for to get high current output, first one is using the positive side as same as this project and then the second type is using negative side, that is placing a transistor at output side and for this purpose, we need to use tip3055 or 2N3055 transistors.
